DIXMOOR (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The boil order has been lifted for Dixmoor residents.

The village announced this weekend that the water pressure has returned to normal levels, thus no longer necessitating the order.

“Everything is working properly in the Village, but there are still some ongoing issues in the privately owned Modern Estates that still need to be resolved. The Village Clerk, myself and the Board of Trustees are doing what we can to help with this situation in Modern Estates,” said Dixmoor Village President Fitzgerald Roberts in a statement.

Bottled water will still be available to residents on Monday at village hall, located at 170 W 145th St.

Thursday was the latest in what has been a problematic period for the southern suburb’s water supply. Two water mains broke, one at 141st and Wood, and the other on 143rd Street between Davis and Spaulding causing low water pressure. A boil order was issued, initially for the Modern Estate mobile home park, and then all of Dixmoor.

The village then had to subsequently shut the water off for all of its residents because of the amount of water that was lost from the water tank and worry about overheating the village’s water pumps. By Thursday night the water was turned back on, but a boil order was still in place.

Dixmoor suffered a much more extensive water crisis last Fall and, in April, the village received a $2 million federal grant to help finance the replacement of one of the worst sections of their aging water pipe system. Experts estimate it’ll take $20 million to fix the entire Dixmoor water system.
