(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Chicago firefighters were hard at work Saturday night, battling a massive warehouse fire on the city's South Side.

The fire started just before 6:30 p.m. in a truck and trailer repair shop near 41st Street and Oakley Avenue in the Back of the Yards neighborhood.

Neighbor to the family owned business, William Rodriguez, spoke with CBS News Chicago.

“Right when I walked to my front door, I started seeing flames. After that, I started hearing explosions, so I called the police department,” he said.

“They directed me to the fire department, got them here, knocked on my mom's door. And after that explosion after explosion after explosion.”

A level one hazardous materials response was initiated after explosions were heard from the three alarm fire.

A CFD spokesman says some propane tanks inside the business exploded, prompting a large emergency response.

Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 8:30 p.m. No one was inside at the time of the fire and there haven't been any reported injuries.

The cause of the massive blaze is under investigation.
