CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The Chicago Cubs and Cincinnati Reds are reportedly up next for the 2022 Field of Dreams game next August in Dyersville, Iowa.
Cubs manager David Ross let the secret slip the day before the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees played in the 2021 Field of Dreams game, while talking with members of the press in the dugout at Wrigley Field.
He said, “We’re in that next year, right?” before realizing his mistake, since it hadn’t been announced; and walking it back, saying, “No. We’re not, we’re not, we’re not,” grinning and banging his hid against the dugout wall at Wrigley.
Now, multiple sources are reporting that the Cubs and Reds will take the Field of Dreams on Aug. 11, after a wildly successful inaugural game between the White Sox and Yankees.
MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred speaking to the press with Kevin Costner before the Sox-Yankees game.
"The reception that this event has received has been so positive that we will be back," said MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred before the White Sox-Yankees game, speaking to the press with Kevin Costner. "It's just been so successful that it's hard not take the opportunity to do it again."
"What I've seen out here is that a replication of an attention to detail," Costner said.
The Field of Dreams game was the highest rated regular season game in 15 years; and couldn’t have been better scripted for Sox fans, anyway, with Tim Anderson ending it, hitting a two-run homer into the corn.
