CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Couples can get married for free and celebrate the 100th birthday of an iconic Chicago building at the same time.
The Magnificent Mile Association is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Wrigley Building by giving soon to be newlyweds the opportunity to have a free outdoor wedding just off of Michigan Avenue.
Up to 50 couples can either get married or enter into a civil union in an outdoor ceremony under the Wrigley Building's bridge, located at 401 N. Michigan Ave., between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on Sept. 26.
Due to social distancing measures, only two witnesses and underage children will be allowed to attend the event, which will be presided over by local judges.
“We are so proud to celebrate The Wrigley Building turning 100-years-old this year,” said Bradley Borowiec, Vice President of The Wrigley Building. “We’ve seen hundreds of couples get engaged under the shades of terra cotta, and now, couples can help us celebrate 100 years by putting their special mark on this day. Marriages on The Mile – Weddings at Wrigley is an incredible opportunity to come together at an iconic Chicago location for a day of festive activity around the unions, while also welcoming participants for the wider Meet Me on The Mile festivities.”
The newlyweds can also take pictures at the closed DuSable Bridge following the ceremony.
One couple will win a grand prize honeymoon package.
Couples can apply online for the Marriages On The Mile contest through Aug. 31. Most winners will be notified by Sept. 1 and the grand prize winner will find out by Sept. 8.
