CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Michael Liu was denied bail on Wednesday following a brutal stabbing in far south suburban Crete earlier this month.
The 36-year-old is accused of driving from his home in Oak Creek, Wisconsin and trying to kill the parents of his soon-to-be ex-wife.
The Will County Sheriff’s Office said Liu parked outside the couples’ home on December 1 and fired shots into their living room.
He then broke into the house and when his gun malfunctioned, police say he stabbed his 66-year-old mother-in-law and 68-year-old father-in-law several times before the father-in-law stabbed Liu more than a dozen times in self- defense.
“If it were not for the quick action taken by the deputies on scene, three lives may have been lost that day,” Sheriff Mike Kelley said in a news release.
All three were taken to the hospital, Liu and his mother-in-law were later released.
His father-in-law is still being treated at a hospital in Chicago. Liu was previously convicted of domestic battery and violating an order of protection.
He now faces a series of felony charges including attempted murder, home invasion and battery.
