Wisconsin tow driver posed as a deputy and extorted women for sex, nude photos: Sheriff

(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Germantown, Wis., man has been arrested and accused of posing as a sheriff's deputy and an attorney in an effort to get women to send him explicit photos and perform sex acts.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office said Daniel Anderson, 35, had the victims' phone numbers because he worked as a tow driver for Homer's Towing and Service, which the women used to tow their cars.

Police were alerted by a woman who said he sent her a text message in which he claimed to be a sheriff's deputy. Anderson was accused of telling her that he could make criminal charges go away in exchange for explicit photos and sex acts.

Detectives — posing as the victim — then communicated with Anderson, and the sheriff's office said he sent a photo of himself posing as a deputy.

There were other women, according to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, including one who said the man posed as her husband's divorce lawyer, also seeking photos.

Officials said Homer's Towing was "fully cooperative" and described the company as a "terrific partner with public safety agencies throughout Washington County."

In a statement, Homer's Towing said Anderson is no longer employed with the company.

He was charged with extortion, impersonating a police officer, identity theft and disorderly conduct.

Any other victims were encouraged to contact Washington County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant of Detectives Tim Kemps at tim.kemps@washcowisco.gov or call 262-335-4846.
