(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Business owners in Kenosha are bracing for what might happen when a verdict is reached in the Kyle Rittenhouse trial.
Some stores are still boarded up following the unrest during last year's protests after a white police officer shot a Black man during a call.
Rittenhouse shot three men, killing two of them, during the unrest.
Anne Benson, owner of Oliver’s Bakery, said she saved the plywood she used to board up her store last year. She’s hoping she doesn't have to do it again.
“I’m not rushing to put them up any time soon. I’m going to try to have faith in Kenosha that we’re going to not go through what we did a year ago.”
Benson said she's most concerned about protesters who come to Kenosha from elsewhere.
She blames outsiders for most of the violence and destruction during last year's protests.
