Ahead of taking the stage for Audacy’s 10th annual We Can Survive show at Prudential Center in Newark, NJ, Clarkson shared the 22 tracks she released surrounding her highly-public split from ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, are just the surface of all the music she wrote to process her divorce.

“Those are just for me,” Clarkson told Audacy’s Mike Adam of the tracks she didn’t include on either project saying they “shouldn’t be released.”

“Anything [information] that was already out there, I was fine with [sharing], but any stuff that people didn’t know, I did not release anything.”

Keeping boundaries was not a difficult decision for Clarkson, who has continually kept her kids top of mind throughout the entire process and ensured they feel they have a safe space to process their own emotions. “They’re very good at expressing themselves,” the 41-year-old said of her two kids, who have made the move to New York with her.

Clarkson opened up saying the move has been a positive one thus far for them, especially her son, who is fitting in well at his new school — a great relief for the Mom of two. “My son walked out of his school and was like, ‘This is the right school for me. The other one didn’t fit like this one,’” Clarkson shared.

As they continue to settle into their new city life, Kelly says the family is getting ready for Halloween, a holiday she is happy to participate in. “I’m the parent that totally dresses up with their children. I also do it, though, because I get in disguise,” she laughed. Admitting she’s not entirely sure what she’ll be disguised as this year, she said her son is already in the deep planning stages of his costume.

“He is going to be the hatbox ghost from [Disney’s] Haunted Mansion,” she revealed. “He’s obsessed. He’s been obsessed since before Jared Leto played it.”
