Police responded to a 911 call of a vehicle on fire on County Road 83, just north of Pine Road, at 6:15 p.m.

Upon arrival, officers found a Ford Econoline van "fully engulfed" in flames.

Cops said the driver, Talal Saad, was able to pull himself from the car, but an adult female passenger, whose name is being withheld pending positive identification, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Saad, 53, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident is under investigation, but authorities said the cause of the fire appears to be non-criminal in nature.

Anyone with information on the crash is asked to call Homicide Squad detectives at 631-852-6392.
