HARTFORD, CT (1010 WINS) -- Connecticut will speed up its age-based COVID-19 vaccine rollout in light of a promised increase in supply, Gov. Ned Lamont said Monday.

Connecticut residents between the ages of 45 and 54 will become eligible for vaccines this coming Friday, March 19, Lamont said in a press release.

Residents between the ages of 16 and 44, meanwhile, will likely become eligible on April 5, he said.

The state will also be "accelerating" access for high-risk people under the age of 45 throughout the month of April, the release noted.

"We have some of the best and most dedicated providers in Connecticut who have been working around-the-clock to create the infrastructure that will provide vaccines to as many residents as we can as quickly as possible," Lamont said in a statement. "Based on our discussions with the federal government regarding vaccine allocation, we anticipate receiving more than 200,000 first doses per week by early April."

"This allotment, combined with our state's strong execution over the past several weeks, allows Connecticut to significantly accelerate the schedule so that we can equitably and efficiently vaccinate as many residents as possible," he added

The following Connecticut residents are currently eligible to get vaccinated, according to Lamont's release:

• All individuals age 55 and older
• Healthcare personnel
• Medical first responders
• Residents and staff of long-term care facilities
• Residents and staff of select congregate settings; and
• PreK-12 school staff and professional childcare providers.

Eligible residents can schedule vaccine appointments online at ct.gov/covidvaccine or by calling Connecticut's vaccine hotline at 877-918-2224 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. seven days a week.
