NEW JERSEY (1010 WINS) — Gov. Phil Murphy announced two more people have died due to Tropical Storm Ida on Saturday, bringing the state's death toll to 27.

The new fatalities were victims who were previously reported missing in Mercer and Somerset counties, according to Murphy's office


"I am deeply saddened to report two additional fatalities, bringing our total to 27 New Jerseyans who have lost their lives to this storm," Murphy said in a statement. "Our thoughts and prayers are with every family and community mourning a loved one."

At least 45 people have been killed across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and Connecticut after the powerful storm dropped unprecedented levels of rainfall across the region.

President Joe Biden plans to visit both Queens and Manville, NJ, on Tuesday, Sept. 7, to survey the damages from Ida.
