The 33-year-old man hit a 43-year-old woman pushing a baby stroller around 1 p.m. at West 24th Street and 12th Avenue in Hudson River Park, police said.
After hitting the first victim, the man grabbed a 37-year-old woman sitting on a bench, shoved her to the ground and held a metal object to her neck, officials said.
The first incident was caught on video where the attacker can be heard saying “I am not letting go until police come! I want to die by police!” sources told the New York Post.
He allegedly said the similar words to his second victim, the source added.
Police patrolling the area arrested the man a short time later at a nearby bus stop. He was taken to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue for mental observation before being brought to the police station.
