NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A 4-year-old child is in critical condition after a multi-vehicle accident that occurred on the Staten Island Expressway, Thursday afternoon, officials said.
According to police, at about 12:30 p.m., the child was riding in the back of a Volvo SUV that slowed down because of westbound traffic near South Avenue when a pickup truck rear-ended the Volvo from behind.
The car then crashed into a U-Haul that was being towed, authorities said.
The child was transported to Staten Island University North Hospital in critical condition.
An investigation into the collision remains ongoing.
