NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — Four teens threatened a 12-year-old boy inside an Upper East Side park earlier this week, robbing him of his Apple AirPods, police said.
Authorities said the incident happened Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. inside the John Jay Park basketball court, along the FDR Drive between East 76th and East 78th streets, when a 14-year-old boy and three 15-year-olds approached the victim.
During the encounter, the suspects threatened to "jump" the 12-year-old unless he paid an undisclosed amount via Apple Pay, a source told 1010 WINS.
The teens eventually took his AirPods and fled, according to cops.
The earbuds were tracked down using the preteen's "Find My IPhone" app and the suspects were arrested.
An NYPD precinct praised the responding officers for their work on Twitter.
"Our parks are for play & relaxation — not crime or disorder," the 19th Precinct tweeted. "After a quartet of teens robbed a 12-year-old of his AirPods inside of John Jay Park — our nearby cops responded fast! They used GPS tech to track the stolen earbuds & the four criminals who stole them, arresting them all."
