NEW YORK (1010 WINS) — New York City’s Junior’s restaurant will co-sponsor their second gun buyback event in Brooklyn this weekend.
Alan Rosen, who is the third-generation owner of the famed eatery known for its iconic cheesecake, previously sponsored a gun buyback event in May after news broke of a 12-year-old boy fatally shot while sitting in a parked car in Brooklyn.
During the May buyback program, 69 guns, from rifles to pistols, were traded in for various amounts of cash.
“The first buyback was not only successful because we removed 69 guns from citizen possession, but because we did the right thing and we did it safely," said Rosen, who has 2 Junior's locations in Manhattan, 1 in Brooklyn and an outpost at Foxwoods Casino in Connecticut.
In light of the gun violence continuing to plague the city, Rosen committed to hosting another buyback event on Dec. 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church located at 574 Madison St., in Brooklyn.

The event is co-sponsored by the New York Police Department, New York Police Foundation, Oyate Group, and the King’s County District Attorney’s Office.
In exchange for guns, Rosen and the co-sponsors are offering a $500 bank card for assault rifles and $150 for rifles and shotguns. Airguns can be handed in for a $50 bank card. The first 50 people who hand in a gun will also receive an iPad.
“As a father, businessman, and owner of restaurants that have been woven into the very fabric of New York for more than 70 years, I want to do everything I can to keep my borough, my city, my restaurants and my fellow New Yorkers safe,” Rosen said. “If this gun buyback just saves the life of one other innocent boy or girl, it is worth it. Of course, we’re hoping that hundreds of individuals will participate by turning in their guns so we can really make a major dent in the problem.”
