WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) – A New York City woman was sentenced to two years in prison on Thursday for smashing a pumpkin in the face of a Metro-North conductor in Westchester two years ago.
Alexis Adams, 23, of the Bronx, will head to state prison for the Oct. 11, 2021, attack aboard a commuter train at the Mount Vernon West station, the Westchester D.A. said.
Adams was in an argument with the female conductor around 6 p.m. that evening when she took a pumpkin and struck the transit worker over the face with the squash.
The victim was hospitalized with gashes to her eye and ear, officials said.
Adams quickly fled the train, but she left behind her purse and IDs, leading to her arrest by MTA police, according to officials.
She was hit with a felony charge of assault in the second degree and pleaded guilty on Dec. 7, 2023, in Westchester County Court.
In addition to the two-year sentence, she'll be subject to three years of supervised release.
Westchester D.A. Miriam Rocah said the victim was attacked for "simply doing her job," while MTA Chief of Police John Mueller called assaults on transit workers are "unacceptable" and vowed "perpetrators [...] will face justice."
