South Korean diplomat sucker-punched in Midtown: NYPD

NEW YORK (1010 WINS) -- A South Korean diplomat was sucker-punched in the face as he walked in Midtown Manhattan on Wednesday night, police said.

The unprovoked attacked happened around 8:10 p.m. at Fifth Avenue and East 35th Street, just a block north of the Empire State Building.

A man came up and punched the 52-year-old diplomat in the face at random, according to police.

The victim showed his diplomatic ID as he was being attacked, sources told the New York Post.

The diplomat was taken to an area hospital, where he was in stable condition with pain and swelling to his face, police said.

The attacker fled towards Sixth Avenue, according to police. No arrests have been reported as of Thursday.
