NEW YORK (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- A 15-year-old boy who was subway surfing on a Queens train struck his head and was critically injured, police said Friday.

The teen was riding on top of a 7 train in North Corona around 6:10 p.m. Thursday when his head struck an unknown object at the 111th Street station, according to police.
The boy was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in critical condition.
Video from the scene shows the bloodied subway surfer being pulled from the top of the train and laid on the platform my paramedics.

After the incident, MTA chief safety and security officer Pat Warren released a statement, saying, “Riding on top of a subway car is reckless, extremely dangerous and inconsiderate as it causes significant delays for other New Yorkers.”
“Seeking a thrill that promises heartache for family and friends is foolhardy; choose other avenues to have some fun, ones that demonstrate respect for those you care about,” Warren said.
The incident caused delays in both directions on the 7 train Thursday evening.
