NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. (1010 WINS/WCBS 880) -- Two women were sexually assaulted in the same home in less than 24 hours near the main campus of Rutgers University over the weekend—and police believe the at-large attacker snuck in through an open window.
The first woman was assaulted around 3 a.m. Saturday, while the second was attacked less than 24 hours later at 2 a.m. Sunday. They were both targeted in a home on Central Avenue, just blocks from Rutgers' main campus in New Brunswick.
The victims were sleeping when they awoke to a man in a yellow hoodie sexually assaulting them, according to campus police.
In the second attack, the woman chased the man out of the home. He was last seen fleeing on foot.
The victims, both of whom are affiliated with Rutgers, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
A third woman affiliated with Rutgers was also sexually assaulted Sunday at the College Avenue Student Center, police said.
A man dropped an item in the woman’s lap and then “touched her in an intimate area while retrieving the item,” according to police.
It’s not yet clear if the incidents at the home and student center are connected.
The Rutgers University Police Department has increased patrols in and off campus as an investigation continues.
The police department is urging people to stay alert, lock doors and windows, and travel in groups during late-night hours.
New Brunswick Police are asking anyone with information, or who may have been in the area at the time, to contact the department’s Detective Bureau at 732-745-5217.
