The Patriots are indeed being aggressive this offseason.

Roughly an hour into the legal tampering period, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the Patriots have agreed to a four-year deal with tight end Jonnu Smith. It's worth $50 million and $31.25 million is guaranteed.

The former Titans tight end was one of the better players at the position, right behind Hunter Henry.

The 25-year-old finished with 41 catches for 448 yards and eight touchdowns last season with Tennessee.

“He’s just a really good tight end,” Bill Belichick said ahead of the 2019 playoff game against the Titans. “Can do a lot of things. Blocks well. Runs well. Is a good receiver. Played him at tailback, he looked pretty good back there. He’s a very athletic player. Hard to tackle. Catches the ball well.

“(He’s) great after the catch, probably the best in the league. I mean, I can’t imagine anyone better than him after the catch.”

Smith figures to be a big part of the Patriots offense that hasn't had much production from tight ends in recent years.
