Seth Emerson joined Dukes & Bell and talked about the team’s poor performance in the Sugar Bowl “a lot of it comes down to the easy answer this was a team coming off of the SEC Championship loss that was their season, and the Sugar bowl wasn’t enough for them, DeAndre Baker sitting out might have sent a message to the other players, other players were held out because of injuries that might have played if the game meant, on the offensive side you couldn’t blame injuries so you have to go back to the motivation factor.”
Emerson addressed the reports that players were benched during practice leading up to the game “Kirby said that didn’t happen, I don’t know why Holly Rowe would have made that up, I do know there were no players sat out to start the game. I do think there is something to this team not having the vocal leaders that the 2017 team did, if you go back to 2017 Roquan Smith was such a factor from a leadership standpoint on that team, DeAndre Baker is a quieter guy from a leadership standpoint and that’s not a knock on him there was just a different dynamic and the coaches had to do a little more work this year than they did in the 2017 season.”
When asked who will be the team’s defensive coordinator moving forward Seth told the guys “The most likely scenario to me is they hire a defensive backs coach and them promote from within for the defensive coordinator position, I don’t know if they will do a co-coordinator situation or if Kirby will do it because he was the DC for the Sugar Bowl.”
