Atlanta Braves beat writer Dave O’Brien joined Dukes & Bell and talked about if a Freddie Freeman contract extension is coming soon?
O’Brien talked about the possible timeline for a Freeman contract extension.
“I don’t think there’s any sense of urgency. I think Freddie and Alex have a gentleman’s agreement that, hey it’s going to get done,” O’Brien said. “God forbid he has a bad injury, a knee injury something like that, that’s the only reason I think you want it done because it just gets uncomfortable if he does that and you still have to do it as an organization or you look like crap.
“I think it’s better to get it done before opening day, I tend to think it will get done before opening day or in April like when they did Ozzie and Acuna a couple of years ago and they made a big deal out of the pressers and all that, that was in April. So I could see it either happening in March or way til April when they can do it back here at the ballpark but I think it will be early, I don’t think they’re going to go all year, there’s just always that risk he has an injury.”
