Atlanta Falcons Offensive Coordinator Zac Robinson made his NFL debut as an offensive coordinator yesterday, and did not get his offense off to the start he wanted. A lot of the offensive struggles were due to bad quarterback play and bad offensive line play. However, there also seemed to be a lack of adjustments from Robinson, and earlier today The Morning Shift discussed why that was.
Former Atlanta Falcons offensive lineman Mike Johnson didn’t mince words this morning and said Zac Robinson’s game plan against the Pittsburgh Steelers yesterday was “the most vanilla game plan i’ve ever seen”. Now, as far as Mike’s reason why he thinks the Falcons’ offensive coordinator came out with the most vanilla game plan he’s ever seen, Mike says there’s only two reasons why that happened.
“There’s only one of two answers here, and that’s that Zac Robinson either made this game plan based on Kirk Cousins not being healthy, or, and the much worse scenario is, Zac Robinson is not very good at his job and I have to believe the first one, right? I mean I have to believe the first one. I can't think that Zac Robinson would come out and be that freaking predictable about every single thing we were trying to do.”
We’ve been told all offseason by Raheem Morris, Zac Robinson, and the entire Atlanta Falcons coaching staff that Kirk Cousins has had no limitations and has done everything that they’ve asked him to do, so if that’s the case why would Robinson have to limit the game plan for Cousins if he’s full healthy, or is there something the Falcons aren’t telling us?
Whatever the case may be, the Falcons’ offense will need to show drastic improvement a week from tonight in Philadelphia, or it could be the start to a long season that is supposed to be a promising one for the Falcons.
