The Georgia Bulldogs have now had 17 players enter the transfer portal since it opened, but potentially none bigger than Junior starting linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson. Former Bulldogs QB DJ Shockley joined to address the contingent of transfer portal exits for Kirby Smart and specifically why Jamon Dumas Johnson seems to be looking to play elsewhere next season.
"We saw CJ Allen at the end of the year play really well. Internally I think they wanted Pop (Dumas-Johnson) to have a really big year so he had an opportunity to go to the NFL," says former UGA QB and Analyst DJ Shockley. "They knew what they had in CJ Allen, coming in as a true freshman and emerging, showing what he can do, was the writing on the wall that we (UGA) got a new young stud in here ready to go."
Jamon Dumas-Johnson was an al American for Georgia in 2022 and was trending that way in 2023 before breaking his forearm in a big win against Missouri and missing the remainder of the season. Dumas-Johnson has been projected as high as 56th in the 2024 NFL Draft and well be leaving Athens to complete his career elsewhere and try to continue to raise his draft profile.
