PITTSBURGH (93.7 the Fan) As NHL general managers arrive in Montreal for the draft, Ron Hextall had some important updates on the Kris Letang contract.
Hextall informed the media that the two sides are nearing a deal and Hextall would be "surprised" if something isn't completed by the time they leave Montreal.
There have been rumblings for days that the Letang contract is nearing its completion and now everyone has solid confirmation.
Hextall did say that they are "still working" and talks are "ongoing" but once the details are ironed out thing should be clear.
Evgeni Malkin is another key free agent within the Penguins organization, and Hextall noted that they are on a different stage of negotiations.
Hextall did not speak on if Malkin was be re-signed by the opening of free agency on July 13, but they have been talking.
"As recently as last night," said Hextall on the conversations with Malkin's talks.
