PITTSBURGH (93.7 The Fan) – Shortstop Kevin Newman expected to miss three-to-five weeks with a groin injury the headliner on Wednesday. Here are other injury updates from the Pirates Director of Sports Medicine Todd Tomczyk.

Bryan Reynolds activated off the COVID-19 list while infielder/outfielder Cole Tucker remains out.


LHP Anthony Banda-10-day IL, virus infection
Will resume playing catch on Wednesday, anticipate him spending the minimum time on the injured list.

RHP Max Kranick-right forearm strain
Continues rehab in AAA, will have another three-plus innings rehab start with the Indians on Thursday.

RHP Duane Underwood-hamstring discomfort
Transitioned his rehab to Bradenton, threw one live BP and came out feeling well. Will begin minor-league rehab in the coming days

RHP Nick Mears-right elbow surgery
Will throw a bullpen mid-to-late next week.

RHP Blake Cederlind-Tommy John surgery
Advanced to live batting practice, it will take about two weeks before taking a next step if all goes well

RHP Brennan Malone-right lat injury
Throwing bullpens and live batting practices

RHP Quinn Priester-oblique injury
Throwing 120 feet and should be back on the mound in the next 7-to-10 days.

OF Greg Allen-hamstring
On the 60-day injured list, remains on track to return when the time is up. They brought him to Pittsburgh during the homestand to work with trainers here. He will participate in most of the baseball activities including running on the field.
