Seth Joyner: Eagles' defense played worst game of season

Seth Joyner says the Philadelphia Eagles' defense played their worst game yesterday in a Week 14 win over the Panthers.

"I thought the defense played their worst game that they played all year yesterday," Joyner told Joe DeCamara and Jon Ritchie during his weekly in-studio appearance on the 94WIP Morning Show (every Monday 9-10am).

"The linebackers looked like they didn't know where they were supposed to fit at times. The defensive tackles didn't get off of the ball. As great as Cooper DeJean has been, he got taken to school by the old vet Adam Thielen. They missed some tackles yesterday. The adjustments just didn't look like they normally do. The couldn't get the Panthers behind the sticks."

The Panthers recorded 302 total yards of offense behind a 26 carry, 92 rushing yard performance from Chubba Hubbard.

The majority of the critical conversation has been centered around the Eagles' passing attack, which continues to struggle. Jalen Hurts completed just 14-21 passes for 108 yards in the 22-16 win, as Philadelphia continues to rely on Saquon Barkley (20 carries, 124 yards) and the ground attack.

"Frankly, Jalen has to be better in the passing game," Joyner said. "It's not that I don't believe that he can...but for some reason or another it's not happening to the level we all would like to see. He makes plays with his legs and I think we kind of discount that, but that's a big part of who he is...But in the passing game he has to be better."

Ultimately, Joyner did start the conversation saying he was impressed with the Eagles' overall resiliency as they won their ninth straight game.
