
WATERBURY, Conn. (WTIC Radio) - An investigation into a shooting that happened over the weekend in Waterbury has turned into a homicide investigation after a victim died Sunday evening.
On Saturday afternoon, Waterbury officers were dispatched to the area of Walnut Street and Orange Street after the department got a complaint of shots fired.

While investigating evidence of shots fired in the area of 51 Walnut Street, police said an Orange Street resident notified the officers that their relative was struck by gunfire while inside their home.
Officers found the female relative lying on the floor in critical condition. According to police, she was struck by a bullet in the head.
An ambulance transported the woman to Saint Mary's Hospital for treatment.
About an hour later, Waterbury Hospital Emergency Room staff notified officers that a 35-year-old had arrived with a gunshot wound to the leg, police said.
Police later learned from the victim that he was walking in the area of Walnut Street and Orange Street when he was struck by gunfire. Officers were later able to locate the area where he was shot.
It's believed he was involved in the same shooting as the female victim, police said.
Sunday evening, Saint Mary's Hospital notified the Waterbury Police Department that the female victim had succumbed to her injuries. Police identified her as Mabel “Martinez” Antongiorgi, 56.
Investigators do not believe Antongiorgi was the intended target of the shooting, police said.
The man was treated for non-threatening injuries and has since been released from the hospital.
