The Padres were swept by the Cubs in Chicago after dropping the series finale 23-3 in a game then went south from the get go. Seiya Suzuki blasted a 3-run home run off of Walker Buehler in the 1st inning, and the Cubs led 9-0 through 3 innings after Dansby Swanson added two more home runs through 3 innings. Buehler had his worst outing of the season after pitching so well in the month of June, surrendering 9 earned runs in 4 innings. The Cubs tallied 17 hits including 8 long balls in a game that saw Rodolfo Duran pitching in the 7th inning for the Padres. The Friars won't have much time to sulk as they now head to Los Angeles for a series against the Dodgers beginning on Thursday.
