The Padres lost to the Nationals 4-2 on Saturday afternoon following a 65 minute rain delay to begin the game. The Padres fell behind 2-0 early, before tying the game in the 3rd inning inning on an RBI-double from Martin Maldonado and an RBI-single from Luis Arraez. The Nationals would go back on top for good on an RBI-groundout by CJ Abrams in the 5th inning. Yu Darvish made his fourth start of the season, and was able to complete 5 innings for the first time, but allowed 3 earned runs and only struck out one hitter. The Padres had their best opportunity to get back in the game in the 8th inning, but weren't able to capitalize. Fernando Tatis Jr. drew a leadoff walk, followed by Luis Arraez laying down a sac-bunt. But Washington's catcher made an errant throw to first base, allowing Tatis Jr. to advance to third base and Arraez to advance to second. With the Padres trailing by 2 with runners at second and third and no outs, the Nationals got out of the jam without allowing a run, as Manny Machado struck out, Gavin Sheets grounded into a fielder's choice and Xander Bogaerts lined out to right field. The Padres can still win the series with a win in Sunday's rubber match.
