The Padres tried to close out the NLDS at home and avoid a trip back to LA, but lost Game 4 on Wednesday 8-0. Dylan Cease was tabbed to start on three days rest for the first time in his career. The righty gave up a 1st inning solo home run to Mookie Betts, his second night in a row going deep in the 1st inning. After allowing a walk and two singles in the 2nd inning, including an RBI-single to Shohei Ohtani, Cease was lifted with 2 outs and 2 runners aboard, as he was only able to record 5 outs. The Padres would ask their bullpen to cover the final 7 1/3 innings, turning Game 4 into a full-on bullpen game for both teams. While the bullpen struggled to contain the Dodgers, allowing 8 runs on 12 hits including 3 home runs, San Diego's offense struggled to string together any offense against LA's relief pitchers. The Padres had just 3 hits through the first 6 innings of play, and ended the night 0-9 with runners in scoring position. All in all, it was a game the Dodgers controlled from start to finish. The two teams will return to LA for a decisive Game 5 on Friday night.
