The Spartanburg County Sheriff's Office issued the following press release Monday morning.
Last night at approx. 10:00 PM, this agency received information from the Vienna Police Department in West Virginia that a vehicle with an Alabama tag may be traveling through our jurisdiction, and that it contained a Kidnapping suspect and his victim.
From the information West Virginia provided, deputies staged in the area around Hwy. 290 and I-85, and then spotted a vehicle with that tag number. A felony car stop was conducted on that vehicle, and both the suspect and victim were taken into custody without incident.
From speaking with the 14 year old victim, we learned they had been communicating on Snapchat, met at a mall in West Virginia on Saturday, and had been traveling south ever since.
The victim’s mother arrived at our office at 6:20 AM this morning to retrieve her daughter.
