As parents are faced with additional challenges amidst school shutdowns due to Coronavirus… one Center is doing it’s very best to try and remain open.  Amy Gardner, franchise owner of the Sylvan Learning Centers in Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson, released the following statement via Complete PR:

The below is from Amy Gardner, the franchise owner of the Sylvan Learning Centers in Anderson, Greenville, and Spartanburg.

We are working hard to get information to all of our families. We are aware that the schools have closed for at least 2 weeks. Our desire is to keep Sylvan OPEN. In order to remain open and care for our students and staff, we are implementing the following things around the center.

Please carefully read the following information and keep in mind that all of these items are put in place with your child's academic and physical health in mind. We appreciate you and thank you in advance for working with us.

1. Center: We are diligently using disinfecting spray, disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizer and hand soap throughout the center. We are taking extra precautions at each instruction table by requiring all students to use hand sanitizer when they sit down. We are also using detailed cleaning practices of all ipads and manipulatives.

2. Waiting room: For at least the next two weeks, we are closing our waiting room for students that come in early or for anyone waiting on their students. Please send your student into the center at his instruction time. We ask that you wait in your car as well. We understand this may be an inconvenience, but these are ways we feel we can reduce the spread of germs. At the end of their instruction time, please come in to pick up your student to avoid them leaving the center on their own.

3. Instruction: Instruction will look the same but will have fewer students at the table, spread further around and possibly even offering some instruction in a virtual manner. We may be adding additional hours so that we can help spread the students out throughout the day. If you should want to increase your attendance during this time, please contact the center. For our existing families a Schedule Survey or phone call will be coming your way, so please watch for this.

4. Attendance policy and changes: Please pay close attention to our attendance policy. If your student will be absent, you MUST contact the center by 9:00 am the day of instruction. We are extending make-ups for excused absences an additional 60 days during this time. Excused absences are absences we were made aware of by 9:00 am. Any other absence will be counted as unexcused and will not be eligible for a make-up, unless your program is put on hold during this time period.

5. Illness: Please be very aware of your student’s symptoms. We want them to continue at Sylvan during this time, but we want everyone to stay well and to remain safe. If anyone in your household has a fever, DO NOT BRING YOUR STUDENT TO SYLVAN. If we find a student that we are questioning about a fever, we will immediately isolate and call the parents.

6. Potential Options as needed: We are considering additional availability for homework and virtual school assistance. More details will be sent if this becomes something that is needed or if interest is shown on the Schedule Survey.

7. We are and will continue to monitor the CDC and DHEC websites for the latest information and will update you should anything change.

We will be contacting you either by phone or email with a Schedule Survey to identify whether we are able to open additional hours of instruction in the day. If you have an interest in other times for instruction or modified instruction via a virtual nature, please contact the center.
