Prosecution Rests In Death Penalty Case

The prosecution has rested its case in the death penalty trial of a South Carolina father charged with killing his five young children.

Prosecutor Rick Hubbard told the judge the state had called its last witness when the trial resumed Wednesday morning.

The judge then called a break as Timothy Jones Jr.'s defense prepared its case. His lawyers are expected to argue that he is not guilty by reason of insanity.

More than 30 prosecution witnesses were called, describing how Jones admitted to killing the five children, ages 8, 7, 6, 2 and 1, in their Lexington home in August 2014.

Jurors also heard Jones' confession, listening to him describe how he became enraged when one child broke an electrical outlet.
