Woman Falls from Waterfall

A Florida woman who was visiting South Carolina over the 4th of July holiday nearly lost her life after falling from fifty feet from a waterfall.

This happened in a remote area of northern Oconee County.

The woman was with a group of five people on Saturday, which included members of her own family, when they hiked up to the top of Blue Hole Falls, a waterfall near Mountain Rest.

According to Fire Chief Charlie King of Oconee County Emergency Services, it was as the woman left the designated hiking path to get a better view at the base of the waterfall that she lost her footing.

After a 911 call from her family, more than 40 people assisted with her rescue.

It took more than two hours to build a system of ropes and pulleys to haul her back up.

The woman was life-flighted to Upstate Prisma Health’s Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Although Chief King said the woman’s injuries were significant, he said they did not appear to be life threatening at this point.
