Arrest made after weekend shooting at SC State University

A Richland County teenager is charged in connection to a weekend shooting on a South Carolina college campus. SLED has charged 18 year old Matthew Daniel McCoy, of Blythewood, following that shooting on the campus of SC State in Orangeburg.

At the request of the University Department of Public Safety, SLED is investigating two shootings that occurred Saturday evening during the school's homecoming weekend celebration.

The campus was put on lockdown after the first shooting which killed Jaliyah Butler, 19, of Saluda, a female guest on campus who was pronounced dead at an Orangeburg hospital.

A male guest was also shot and was airlifted to a hospital, there's been no update on his condition.  Another guest was injured while fleeing the scene.

McCoy was charged with Pointing and Presenting a Firearm at a Person, and Carrying a Weapon on School Property and booked into the Orangeburg County Detention Center. School officials have cancelled classes for Monday.
