One person is dead after a fiery weekend crash in the Upstate. The crash happened on Park Avenue near Town Hall in Salem, late Saturday night. The Highway Patrol reports that a Nissan truck ran off the road to the left, hit a parked vehicle and an embankment.
The Oconee County Coroner's Office says when Salem Fire and Rescue crews responded to the vehicle fire, they were able to extinguish the blaze and found one person dead inside the vehicle. Officials have not released the identity of the deceased at this time.
However, items were found inside the truck that leads them to believe the deceased is a 62 year old man from Salem. The incident remains under investigation by the Coroner's Office, South Carolina Highway Patrol, and Oconee County Sheriff's Office.
An autopsy is scheduled to determine more details.
