One person has died in a two vehicle collision on I-385 Southbound near Mauldin early Monday morning.
The Highway Patrol reports the crash occurred around 1:30AM near Exit 31 in Mauldin. Master Trooper David Jones reports the driver of a 2002 Nissan Xterra SUV was traveling north on the southbound side of I-385 and struck a 2019 Freightliner tractor trailer head on.
The driver of the Freightliner was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. The driver of the Nissan died at the scene.
All southbound lanes of I-385 were blocked for hours as crews cleared the wreckage and a diesel fuel spill. Traffic was detoured off of I-385 at the Bridges Road Exit until just after 9:30AM Monday.
That collision is under investigation by the Highway Patrol.
