A former South Carolina basketball star and NBA player will now spend time on another type of court. The Richland County Sheriff's Department says Sindarius Thornwell was arrested earlier today on charges of 2nd degree domestic violence and unlawful conduct toward a child.

The charges came after an incident on August 12th in which Thornwell allegedly assaulted a woman while she was holding a child during an argument. The women claimed Thornwell threw a cup of water at them and hit them in the back of the head.

The Sheriff's Department says Thornwell admitted to throwing the water but denied hitting the victim. Thornwell starred for the Gamecocks, leading them to their lone Final Four appearance in program history.

He was selected in the 2017 NBA draft by the L.A. Clippers and spent time in New Orleans and Orlando before spending several seasons playing internationally.
