A former State Representative has pleaded guilty to child sex crime charges. RJ May who represented District 88 in Lexington County until resigning last month, has entered guilty pleas on five counts of distributing child sex abuse material.

May originally maintained his innocence, but changed his plea just days after hearing how the prosecution planned on presenting evidence in his trial. The trial was expected to begin in a few weeks.

Investigators say, May exchanged over 200 files that depicted toddlers and young children being sexually abused. May has not yet been sentenced, however the charges carry a potential max sentence of 20 years on each count.

Congresswoman and Gubernatorial candidate Nancy Mace said of the situation " The allegations against RJ May aren't just vile, they're evil. His guilty plea proves it".
