Gamecock Football legend dead at the age of 52

A South Carolina Football legend has died. Former Gamecock Quarterback Steve Taneyhill is dead at the age of 52. Taneyhill was the starting Quarterback at South Carolina from 1992 to 1995.

He was known for his mullet hair cut and ultra-confident demeanor. Taneyhill broke several of the program's passing records during his tenure under center. He led the Gamecock program to their 1st ever bowl win in 1995. Taneyhill also led South Carolina to wins over Clemson twice in his four year tenure.

Following his playing days, Taneyhill coached at the high school level. He won three straight State Titles at Chesterfield High School and later led Cambridge Academy in Greenwood to back-to-back state titles in the 8 man division.

Circumstances around his death are still unclear and details have not been released, as of the time of this report. Funeral arrangements are pending, at this time.
