A crowd gathered in Downtown Greenville as the two Republican candidates for Sheriff of Greenville County met in a forum. Incumbent Sheriff Hobart Lewis faces challenger Mike Fortner who talked about why he is running.

Fortner believes that the reason why law enforcement agencies such as the Sheriff's Office are understaffed is due to the negative light the profession has been painted in over the last few years.
Lewis spoke about how the position of Sheriff is a lifestyle and not just a job, something he knows first hand. He would go on to explain that his approach to be way more than just a figure head as Sheriff.
News/Talk 98.9 WORD's Bill Frady moderated the event. The two candidates will meet in the Primary next month. Comments from both men are below.
