Alex Murdaugh's legal team accuses a Colleton County Court Clerk of jury tampering, in an effort to bring the disbarred lawyer's double murder trial to a quick end and ensure a guilty verdict. Murdaugh's defenders say she needed that to secure a lucrative book deal.
The motion for a new trial filed by Attormey Jim Griffin and State Senator Dick Harpootlian, Murdaugh's lead counsel, claims Coleton County Clerk of C0urt Rebecca Hill instructed jury members -- quoting -- not to be 'misled' by defense evidence and that tey shouldn't be "fooled" by anything Murdaugh would say on the witness stand himself.
The motion further claims Hill concocted the report of a Facebook post to remove a juror she suspected would not vote to convict him, something that would torpedo the deal for the book she was writing during the trial and the promotional tour motion she was also planning while the trial was underway.
The request concludes by saying if all or any of the allegations are proven, the court would have no choice but to set aside the verdict and order a new trial.
