Various legislators from the Carolinas responded after the fatal shooting Wednesday of conservative commentator and activist Charlie Kirk.

Senator Lindsey Graham on social media decried the incident as “despicable” and said “There is a pervasive sickness that is poisoning America.”

US Representative from South Carolina Ralph Norman commented on social media that “Political violence has no place in America. Justice must be swift.”

Similar comments were echoed by various legislators on both sides of the political aisle, including North Carolina Governor Josh Stein, who said on social media, “We can never tolerate or become numb to political violence. Our nation is weaker when people are afraid to share their opinions or disagree.”

President Trump announced that flags would be flown at half mast in honor of Kirk’s death, which Governor Henry McMaster followed in suit.
