Released by the OCSO.
(Walhalla, SC) The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is announcing today the arrest of a Westminster man on four charges related to a recent armed robbery investigation.

42 year old William Roger McGuffin of Old Well Road was booked into the Oconee County Detention Center around 8:51am this morning on charges of Assault and Battery of a High and Aggravated Nature, Possession of a Weapon during Commission of a Violent Crime, Petit Larceny and Armed Robbery while armed with a Deadly Weapon.  A hold has also been placed on McGuffin by the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole and Pardon Services.

A deputy with the Uniform Patrol Division responded to an address on Durham Brown Road in Fair Play during the early morning hours of December 16th, 2020 in regards to reports of a shooting incident.  The deputy made contact with two occupants of a vehicle, a male and a female, who stated that McGuffin had assaulted the male subject after the male got out of the vehicle.  McGuffin then reportedly fired a shot from a handgun.

After ordering the female out of the vehicle, McGuffin got into the 2009 Chevrolet Malibu and drove away.  Paramedics were called to the scene to conduct an examination of the male victim who was assaulted.

The investigation was turned over to an investigator with the Criminal Investigations Division.  Based upon evidence that was gathered during the investigation, it was determined that McGuffin assaulted the victim with a handgun and stole the vehicle by use or threat of force while armed with the same weapon.  The value of the Chevrolet Malibu was around $800.

At this time, McGuffin remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center pending a bond hearing.
