It was mayhem in the mountains when a police chase crossed county lines and ended in a fiery crash. The Haywood County Sheriff's Office says the pursuit started on I-40 when the driver refused to pull over.

The suspect, 36 year old Devan Michael, did slow down to let a female passenger out of the vehicle. The chase then continued into Buncombe County. The driver then crashed into a business in Candler, and the vehicle caught fire.

Michael is charged with two counts of trafficking fentanyl, possession with intent to sell a controlled substance and eluding arrest. Michael, who was already on federal probation, is being held on a million dollar bond in Haywood County.
