"Mountain Mayhem" two arrested after chase in WNC

A pair of suspects are accused of committing mayhem in the mountains of Western North Carolina, last week. The Haywood County Sheriff's Office says a deputy stopped a vehicle speeding in a construction zone on I-40, last Wednesday.

The driver 31 year old ,Kihrie Holmes opened the door but drove off and dragged the deputy about 10 yards. Holmes then led deputies on a chase with speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour. Deputies used a pit manuever to bring the chase to an end near a golf course.

A passenger in the vehicle, 41 year old Jarrett Cody Youngdeer was arrested for possession of a controlled substance. He also had outstanding warrants out of Cherokee County.

Holmes is charged with eluding arrest and assault with a deadly weapon on a government official. The Sheriff's Office says the deputy suffered minor injuries in the incident, but has since fully recovered.
