A suspect convicted of murder in is never expected to see freedom again. The sentence comes after the 2018 murder of 13 year old, Hania Aguilar in Lumberton.
The suspect Michael McLellan pleaded guilty Friday to a charge of murder in the 1st degree on Friday. Officials say McLellan admitted to kidnapping and killing Aguilar before disposing of her body.
McLellan has been sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. Officials also say McLellan tried to escape custody both on the way to court and afterward while being transported to prison. However, officers were able to foil both attempts.
