Nine people have been charged in connection to a fraud ring in Western North Carolina. The Buncombe County Sheriff's Office says the operation involved checks that were stolen from the mail, washed and then stamped with the name of one of the suspects.

Investigators say two suspects, Wesley Mcrary and Angela Queen, were the ring leaders. The Sheriff's Office says they recovered a large amount of checks, stolen mail and credit cards.

Others arrested in the scheme include Allison Wilson, Billi Jo Mizelle, Meagan Camp, Raquis Mills, Brittany Payton, Helen Lindsey and Krystle Hall.

Queen and Mcrary face charges of trafficking stolen identities, larceny, credit card fraud and a list of other crimes. The rest of the group was arrested on charges ranging from forgery, identity theft and conspiracy.
