A missed court date phone scam is making rounds again in the Upstate.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office warns of the most recent scam in the area where scammers are making use of Sheriff’s Office employees’ names.
The scam consists of a call from a spoofed official Sheriff’s Office number, where the scammer states that the victim has missed a Federal Grand Jury subpoena court appearance and has to pay a fine to avoid jail time.
The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office reminds the public to be way of these scams that attempt to scare victims and inflict a sense of urgency.
They also remind the public that law enforcement will NEVER contact an individual requesting money to recall a warrant or drop charges.
If you are a victim of a recent scam, please call and report the incident to your local law enforcement.
